Doreen Kutzke
Born in the Harz Mountains and raised in the GDR, Doreen Kutzke is a Berlin-based multidisciplinary musician and composer with a passion for exploring and teaching advanced vocal techniques. Her three-month study in Kyoto allowed her to immerse herself in Japanese and Buddhist singing techniques, which she has incorporated into her vocal practices, leading to numerous collaborative and individual projects.
As a performer, Kutzke has participated in the class revue at HAU 1 with Christiane Rösinger and served as a voice coach for the innovative Glitch Choir. She also had the privilege of performing at the Goksegong Yodel Festival in Korea and collaborating with Jefta Van Dinther on the groundbreaking Re-Machine project.
In addition to performing, Kutzke is a writer and educator. She shared her yodeling experiences in an article for Berliner Zeitung and founded Jodelschule Kreuzberg, a school dedicated to teaching yodeling and advanced vocal techniques. She travels the world, offering workshops in cities such as New York, Paris, and Los Angeles.
Currently, Kutzke is in residence at Metabolic Studio in Los Angeles, creating compositions inspired by the topography of California’s Sierra Nevada. By incorporating yodeling and Swedish kulning techniques, these compositions will be integrated into water tanks to create a unique auditory experience.
Kutzke’s work has garnered international attention, with features in The Guardian, BBC, ARTE TV, and various German television stations. She is excited to continue exploring the boundaries of vocal expression and sharing her passion with audiences worldwide.
